BMW waited for Alpina to reveal their B7 Bi-Turbo and have their moment before unveiling their own 600 hp sporty 7-Series and make them feel bad. The new 2017 BMW M760Li xDrive is the closest thing you get to a M7 – except the Alpina B7, of course – and it has a very terrible name.

Granted, it was crappy of BMW to pull thing on Alpina. But in spite of the similarities between the B7 and the BMW M760Li xDrive, these cars have totally different characters seeing as the former is a V8 while the latter features a big and lazy V12 engine mated to an 8-speed Steptronic Sport Automatic transmission is equipped with a Launch Control function.

BMW has worked hard on the V12 twin-turbo engine they’ve put in the M769Li, giving it 2900 psi of pressure, Double-VANOS continuously variable camshaft timing, sophisticated intercoolers, and a bespoke M sport exhaust system. As mentioned, the power is the same, 600 horsepower, but the M760 will deliver is in a calmer, more gentlemanly manner. You still get to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, but you won’t feel rushed.

BMW M760Li xDrive is brimming with technology features that make the big saloon more of a driver’s car really than a chauffeured limo. It comes with all-wheel-drive, Integral Active Steering, Active Suspension, Driving Dynamics Control and many other driver assist systems. There’s also an M aero kit for that unique look BMW M fans die for. Other highlights include a new Head-Up Display system, 3D graphics, iDrive 5.0 with touch display and Gesture Control, and BMW Ultimate Benefits for 7 concierge service.
