The joy of seeing a new 2017 Audi R8 Spyder undisguised and out in the open prior to its official debut was dampened by some of the car’s styling elements. The car – this version of it, at least – comes with a less than savory rear apron.

The reason it sticks out like a sore thumb is because the rear-end is pretty much the only really new part of the 2017 Audi R8 Spyder. The front-end is identical to the hardtop R8 and the Spyder roof arrangement seems to be the same as the previous model. Even the engine cover with those cool slats has not changed that much.

The rear apron with the new taillights and stuff are all that’s really new, and we’re afraid they’re rather disappointing. The glossy finish of the diffuser and that of the air vents below the light combined with the black piece that connects those lights and holds the Audi logo has given the back end of this car a look that can only be described as weird.

Still, there are a few different variant of Audi R8 Spyder coming. So if you don’t like this one, do not despair. The other versions may look better.
