To be brutally honest BMW’s effort in paying homage to the wonderful 2002s of the yesteryear with the Villa d’Este concept BMW 2002 Hommage has not been convincingly great. The car doesn’t really work as a modern-day 2002, but it could make a superb new production model in its own right.
And not as a coupe. On the evidence of this BMW 2002 Hommage Cabrio rendering, the concept car should be produced as a new convertible model simply because it just looks fantastic! We don’t much like the look of the hardtop Hommage, but in convertible form we think it looks brilliant.
So here’s another case of rendering artists getting it right where the car makers have let us down. BMW 2002 Hommage Cabrio offers a very desirable package. Whereas the hardtop concept is a pompous, smug-looking tribute to a great car, and as mentioned it suffers from delusions of grandeur, the Cabrio appears as an honest, fun little car that would be a much better candidate for carrying the 2002’s torch into the 21st centruy.
