Alpina cars are so rare that often the only place we get to see them is in the official press photos. And that’s a problem because their press photos are usually pretty crappy. But every once in a while an Alpina gets caught out in the wild by spotters, and that’s when we have to just sit and marvel for a time at the sheer class and splendor of the thing. If you don’t mind we’d like to do that with this Alpina B6 Gran Coupe now.

In fairness, Alpina B6 Gran Coupe looks so amazing partly because the car on which it is based, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, is such a good looking car. But the real magnificence of this beast lies in all those little Alpina details which transform it from a merely handsome car into a unique and utterly dashing piece of kit; details such as those classic Alpina wheels, the vintage looking aero kit, and the special paint job.

Priced from $122,195 for the xDrive version, the built-to-order Alpina B6 Gran Coupe is powered by a specially tuned version of BMW’s 4.4 liter V8 Bi-Turbo V-8 engine which produces 600 BHP at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 590 lb-ft at only 3,500 rpm. With the help of the all-wheel-drive system that power results in a 0 – 60 mph acceleration time of only 3.6 seconds and a limited top speed of 200 mph.
