So after the debut of the all-new BMW 5 Series G30 we now get the first speculative rendering of that car’s hot sister, the M5. If history is any indication, the next BMW M5 should rear its head sometime towards the end of next year. And it most likely will look just like what you are looking at right now.
Then again, BMW M5 has never been about the way it looks, but rather what sort of engine it boasts and how it goes. Styling-wise, the M5 is a slightly more aggressive version of the regular 5er with larger air intakes, some extra aero parts, larger wheels and sporty side mirrors. In fact, to an uninterested eye there is no difference between an M5 and a 520d Diesel. But this whole wolf in sheep’s clothing is what the M5 fans love about this car.
As for the powertrain the next BMW M5 will pack, it is too soon to even speculate about it. But it is highly unlikely that BMW should drop the V8 and go for a turbocharged six-cylinder like they did with the M3 and M4. A more plausible scenario would be that they will downsize the current 4.4 liter, probably to just 4.0 liter to match AMG’s V8, and then give it more power than the current engines through employing even fancier turbochargers.
