As one of the classiest four-door convertible cars in the world, the Audi A5 Cabriolet and its higher performance variant, the S5, have always been a “sure thing” for the manufacturer. Now there is a new version bad on the recently launched coupe version and as you would expect it just has more of everything.
The 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet gets the same exact styling as the coupe, minus the roof arrangement which here is a classic soft top that opens electronically in 15 seconds and closes in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph. You get the same head and taillights that to be honest are less than savory, but on the whole the styling is as prestigious as ever. This is one convertible you won’t be ashamed of being seeing in with the top down. It even manages to make people with comb-overs look cool.
Engine-wise, the new Audi A5 Cabriolet launches with a 2.0 TFSI with 252PS, a 2.0 TDI with 190PS and a 3.0 TDI with 218PS, plus a 2.0 TFSI with 190PS and a 3.0 TDI with 286PS set to join the lineup pretty soon. But the one you want is to be found in the S5 Cabriolet, and it’s a 3.0 TFSI six-cylinder with an exciting 354PS of power and a0 to 60 mph time of 5.1 seconds. If you need anything faster, you’re going to have to wait for the RS5 version to arrive with around 450PS.
Among the notable technology highlights of the new models, there are the microphones in the seatbelts which help with the natural language voice control and free-text search, Audi virtual cockpit with various display options, head-up display and LTE. Equipment-wise, the standard kit includes 17 or 18-inch diameters, xenon or LED headlamps, the Audi Smartphone Interface, leather upholstery, front seat heating, acoustic parking and three-zone climate control.
