BMW designers must have a pathological fear of aging, because they have a habit of face-lifting their cars before the facelift is really warranted. The latest model to go under the knife rather unnecessarily is the 2018 BMW 4 Series range which has received a nose job as well as some buttocks tightening, as well new mascara and accessories. And it looks hot, but you sort of get the idea it’s trying too hard to be sexy.
At any rate, the 2018 BMW 4 Series, and we mean the entire range including the coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe, have all got in the new modeyear revised front and rear aprons with hexagonally shaped full-LED headlights, a large air intake with distinctly defined bars and sharp contours, LED rear lights, new chrome accents and high gloss black finish surroundings. The new bi-LED headlights combined with the new bumper design with its massive grilles give the 4er a more purposeful look at the front, while the rear with its new valance and sculpted boot lid looks overall rounder and cleaner than before.
Inside the cabin the 2018 BMW 4 Series features a host of upgrades, the highlights of which include electroplated finish for the air outlets, the control panels in the doors, the switch for the hardtop roof in the BMW 4 Series Convertible and the integral belt, high-gloss black trim on the console, double stitching, sport steering wheel, and new trim and color options such as Midnight Blue Dakota leather, Cognac Dakota leather and Ivory White Dakota leather and Carbon Aluminum trim. We should also mention there are new exterior colors – Sunset Orange and Snapper Rocks Blue – and new 18 and 19-inch light-alloy wheels.
As for the technical upgrades, the latest 4 Series Bimmer comes with stiffer suspension featuring more advanced damping technology and an upgraded steering set-up. BMW says these changes result in reduced roll and greater stability. Engine-wise, you get two uprated gasoline engines including 430i with 248 hp and 440i with 320 hp, both available with xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Also, the optional Navigation system for the BMW 4 Series includes a new user interface, there is an optional multifunction instrument display, Wireless smartphone charging and Wi-Fi hotspot, and the latest BMW Connected services.
