For the past few years the wagon version of the E63 AMG has been the only real rival for Audi’s mighty RS6, and even so it never did really challenge the Lord of the Rings. That might be about to change though, because the Stuttgart boys just dropped the new Mercedes-AMG E63S Estate and it’s a friggin’ beast!

Boasting the same exact technical specs as the sedan version, the new Mercedes-AMG E63S Estate 4MATIC, for it comes as standard with all-wheel-drive, is a family wagon with up to 1820 litres of cargo capacity and a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.5 seconds. The performance is due to the car’s magnificent 4.0-litre V8 with twin turbochargers and direct injection which churns out 612 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque. Mercedes does sell you a diet version with 570 hp, but why would anyone settle for less power?

Just about the only negative regarding the performance of Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate is the top speed which is limited to 155 mph, which makes no sense. Still, you can always have that removed with a simple chip mod. As for the practicality and all that, it is true that at heart this car is a four-wheel-drive family wagon, but in the real world you can expect to do family wagony stuff in it. For one thing, it has a low-slung AMG body kit and large, low-profile tires. Then there is the thirst of the engine, and its vicious soundtrack which will scare the bejesus out of children at the soccer practice.

So yes, the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate is best left in the hands of the family’s patriarch so he can feel like more of a man when he goes grocery shopping.
