With only a few weeks to go until the Summer launch of the 2017 Jeep Compass in the European market the company dispatches a bunch of the compact SUV to Portugal where they are put through a series of on and off road tests. The idea is to let the Euro buyers know the Compass offers a full package.

What that means is, besides boasting the latest  user friendly technology and a full array of active driver assist systems, as well as four different configurations, specific content and powertrain options, 2017 Jeep Compass is also good at being a Jeep – i.e. tackling some fairly rough terrain and coming the other end unscathed.

The off road prowess of 2017 Jeep Compass is owed to the two advanced, intelligent full-time 4×4 systems: the Jeep Active Drive and the Jeep Active Drive Low, the latter with 20:1 crawl ratio, each of which can send 100 percent of available torque to any one wheel when needed. Jeep Compass launches in Europe with one petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol units is a 1.4-liter MultiAir2 Turbo engine with Stop&Start delivering 140 horsepower and 230 Nm of torquewith the 2WD config and 170 horsepower and 250 Nm with the 4WD config. The diesels include 1.6-liter MultiJet II with Stop&Start delivering 120 horsepower and 320 Nm (4×2) and 2.0-liter MultiJet II with Stop&Start delivering 140 horsepower and 350 Nm (4×4).
