Dodge Charger Hellcat Takes on Tesla Model S P85D

Yes, it is silly to compare to a technologically advanced electric car like the Tesla Model S to an old-school blood and guts muscle car like the Dodge Charger Hellcat. But these cars have a lot in common: they both seat four adults; both make 700 horsepower, there and thereabout; and they both claim to be the best high-performance super sedan in the world.

Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman decided to settle this argument once and for all by taking the car’s to the drag strip. This head to head test has nothing to do with consumer advice and the whole which-one-you-should-buy thing. It’s all about finding out which one of these cars has the biggest sausage!

It is amazing to think Dodge Charger Hellcat and Tesla Model S P85D are both family cars designed to take your kids to school and get the groceries. They just happen to have a pair of atomic bombs under the bonnet. The biggest difference between these two is that the Tesla is car of the future and is only just beginning its stint, whereas the Charger belongs to a dying breed. Making 700+ horsepower, gas guzzling sedans didn’t make any sense 10 or 15 years ago, and the situation is even worse today – especially since you can get the same performance from a zero-emission EV.
