When every single new model you make becomes a best seller somewhere in the world, it is only natural that you star thinking of dominating the market. That is what Hyundai is planning to do in Europe, wanting to become the leading Asian automotive brand in Europe by 2021. And the new Hyundai Kona is going to play a major role in that grand plan.

Hyundai Kona is a new sub-compact SUV that Korean auto maker has come up with, teased in this photo for a near future debut at a major European motor show. Of its details we know but little, only that the fourth member of Hyundai SUV family has a “progressive style that reflects the lifestyle of modern customers.” This brings to mind the fuel cell SUV concept they unveiled at Geneva Motor Show last month. That concept could serve as a template for the Kona, both in design and technology:

Hyundai Kona is named after the Kona district on the Big Island of Hawaii, reflecting the island’s energetic image and unique lifestyle. That means the Santa Fe and the Tuscon reflect the lifestyle of those American cities, which is interesting. Hyundai is putting a lot of emphasis on the Kona’s energetic character and premium features, so we reckon the car is rival for the newly launched Toyota C-HR. The market seems to be shifting toward funky looking crossover designed more to be fun than practical. That’s good!
