Looks like the horsepower war ( at least in family cars segment!) has turned to MPG war! So new facelifted 2010 Toyota Camry had to do something about it to keep up with the Americans, as almost all of their new sedans are capable of more than 30mpg. Now Camry has joined the club with its new 4cylinder which managed to accomplish 22/33 mpg city/highway goal. Of course these numbers are achieved with a six-speed manual gearbox, automatic ones are not as good. Despite being bigger than the 2009 version, new engine is 2mpg more economical.

Here’s a list of  2009 most economical sedans :

  • 2010 Ford Fusion: 23/34 (auto); manual not yet available
  • 2009 Chevrolet Malibu: 22/33 (six-speed auto), 22/30 (four-speed auto)
  • 2010 Toyota Camry: 22/32 (auto), 22/33 (manual)
  • 2009 Nissan Altima: 23/31 (auto), 23/32 (manual)
  • 2009 Hyundai Sonata: 22/32 (auto), 21/32 (manual)
  • 2009 Honda Accord: 21/30 (auto), 22/31 (manual)
  • 2009 Dodge Avenger: 21/30 (auto only)
  • 2009 Mazda6: 21/30 (auto), 20/29 (manual)
