This happens when you lie to stewards! McLaren has been given a suspended 3 race ban by Formula1 authorities after being convicted of misleading stewards at the Australian Grand Prix. A lot of people still remember Mclaren’s spying scandal and now this! Not much of dignity left for them! but honestly, if they are out and given the performance of Ferrari, Formula1 won’t be worth watching anymore! I mean I’m already bored with Button’s winnings!

In a verdict that’s likely to be seen as a light punishment by the F1 community, the suspended ban follows an FIA hearing in Paris this morning in which team director Martin Whitmarsh apologised for his team’s conduct.

The controversy concerned an incident that took place in the Australian race. After the race McLaren accused Toyota’s Jarno Trulli of overtaking while under yellow flag conditions.

At the steward’s enquiry McLaren’s sporting director Dave Ryan stated that Hamilton had not deliberately let Truilli through and had not been asked by the team to do so. Trulli was duly handed a 25 second penalty, which meant Hamilton was promoted from fourth to third.

This statement was later contradicted by radio transmissions to and from the car.

The FIA reserve the right to enforce the penalty if further facts emerge or if there is a further breach of the rules.
