Teamspeed informants from Maranello are reporting that the upcoming drop-top version of Ferrari 458 Italia will sport a folding metal top, just like it’s older brother the California. And already we can hear people whining about the added weight and spoiled performance, but California has it and it’s not exactly slow, is it?!
Yes, if you are worried about going round a corner 0.00001th of a second faster, then yes you should be worried about it, but that’s for geeks! We are more interested in convenience ad a folding hardtop is a damn sight better than fabric roof. Plus, it’s not going to be a panoramic million-piece system like Mercedes SL’s, it will probably be made of carbon composites or something like that, with three or four moving pieces! Remember the rotating top of Ferrari 575 SuperAmerica?! That was a good compromise.
Of course it’s not official yet, so we all better wait and see what Ferrari is up to.
Life’s GOOD when you get to complain about your Ferrari having too much weight because the roof is manufactured out of metal (or something similar) as opposed to fabric.
