Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the Korean Mustang, will be significantly upgraded for next year, getting a facelift and upgraded powertrains. The four-cylinder engine remains on the options list, but there’s a good chance that they swap the current 2.0 liter unit with the 2.0 T that powers the Sonata Turbo. The better news is, they might replace the 3.8 liter V6 with the 5.0 liter Tau V8 of the new Genesis sedan!
That means 429-hp in a sports coupe, or in other words, sheer driving pleasure! Now, such decision sounds illogical for Hyundai becasue no other car in Genesis Coupe’s class has become that mad yet to offer 430-hp and the Geni Coupe is leading the segment anyway, and there’s also the price issue. Using the V8 will increase the Coupe’s price considerably, and that means affordability will no longer be its winning card.
But Hyundai is now more powerful than ever and is in a position to do this regardless of the results. And I can’t stress enough how great this idea is! 430 hp used to be Ferrari sort of power not so long ago, and now, possibly, you can get that much in a Hyundai.

The competition is not mad enough to put 430 hp in their cars??? Um ,
Mustang GT 412 Boss 444 GT 500 550hp
Camaro SS 426hp
ChallengerSRT8 470hp
This is the competition,no?
From what I’ve heard they are beefing up the V6 to 350HP and the I4 is getting 300HP. So what’s the point of putting the V8 in, if you want 430HP buy the base V6 and get a turbo or super charger for it, what the gen coupe needs is less weight and lower ride hight and the six speed needs a bit more play in the slush box and in the clutch. Personally I’d like to see the toyota FT-86/subaru and the gen coupe go head to head, the four in the gen is almost an evo motor so in the updated four you could probably get huge power upgrades right away. Just remember hyundia 430HP is all fine and dandy but it will feel like 210HP if your pushing around 2-3 tons , but then if its done right then it will be badass
Hyundai should go for it.I have looked at the Genesis Track model several time’s.My exact thoughts was”this thing needs a V8″. That would be awesome.I think Hyundai can put a V8 in ,beef up the drivetrain & suspension without getting too pricey compared to other vehicle’s in the same class.Hyundai knows how to give more for less from what I’ve seen.If Hyundai does this, that will probably be my next car.
