Porsche 991 Turbo with Tri-Turbo Engine

So BMW is not the only car maker working on tri-turbo engines, Porsche is also developing a similar system.

But BMW can be proud of the fact that they’re the first to launch a car with such three turbocharger with the new M Performance Automobiles models. Porsche will probably be the next introducing the tri-turbo in the upsoming 911 Turbo.

There’s nothing wrong with the curretn twin-turbo system, but adding a third one will not only make the system more powerful, it also helps with the acceleration and fuel economy. A small turbo will be located close to the engine for more low rpm grunt to support the output of the two larger ones.

The Porsche 991 Turbo is expected to have around 525hp, the same as today’s Turbo S. The new tri-turbo system will also be used in the next GT2 and GT2 RS models.
