The Speed version of the new Bentley Continental has been unveiled ahead of its official debut at this year’s Goodwood FoS. Following the footsteps of its predecessor, the new Speed trades some of the GT’s luxury and refinement for more speed and sportiness. It is based on the W12 model, obviously, and comes with no less than 625 horsepower. The top speed in a mind-boggling 205 mph or 329 km/h.

The magnificent 6.0 liter W12 twin-turbo engine in this Bentley is rated at 625 PS (616 bhp/460 kW) at 6000 rev/min and 800 Nm of torque. Transmitted through via a close-ratio, ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, that power will give the car a 0 to 60mph time of 4.0 seconds, which is great for a heavy super GT with permanent all-wheel drive system.

The Speed also has superior dynamics compared to the normal models, thanks to an upgraded chassis featuring uprated steering and suspension systems and a lowered ride height. The enhanced chassis is complemented by unique 21-inch Speed wheels, available in two lustrous finishes, and fitted with 275 35 R21 Pirelli PZero ultra-high performance tyres.

Visually, changes are quite subtle over the standard GT, and include dark-tinted matrix front grille and lower air intakes and the ‘rifled’ finish to the exhaust tailpipes, and that’s about it.

It’s up to you to decide if the Speed is worth the extra pay. You can see this car live in action at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, as it takes the hill in the hands of Bentley Boys Juha Kankunnen, Guy Smith and Derek Bell.
