A convertible dragster? Why not! That is what Chevrolet unveiled at the 2012 SEMA show in form of the Camaro COPO Convertible. It is one of the 69 COPO Camaros they are building in 2012, and it will be auctioned after the show to benefit the American Heart Association.

The COPO Convertible is not a one-off. There is another one like it, but that too is a show car and not for sale to the public.

The Convertible has the 327 engine that features a 4.0L Whipple supercharger, for an NHRA-certified output of 550 horsepower. 2012 COPO can also be had with a 2.9-liter supercharger 327 and a naturally aspirated 427 engines.

Another feature of this unique car is the Inferno Orange Metallic paint job, featured on only 12 units of the 69 COPOs. It is also the only example built with a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission.

Chevy also announced that due to strong customer demand, they will produce another run of 69 COPO Camaros for 2013. It would have been pointless if they made the Convertible. It looks cool, but it’s useless down at the drag strip.
