The new electric version of Fiat 500 makes its debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. Going on sale next year as a 2014 model, and only in America apparently, Fiat 500e is powered by an electric system capable of 111 hp and 147 lb-ft of torque.

The figures Fiat is claiming for the 500e are not bad, at least not compared to other electric cars of the time. They say the car has an effective range of 100 miles (160 km) and that it recharges in less than 4 hours with its Level 2 (240 volt) on-board charging module (OBCM).

Fiat admits that the 500e is not just as great to drive as the normal 500, but to live it, it is just as convenient. The car looks a bit different than its ordinary siblings, what with all the aero parts added to it, the new front fascia, lower ride height, smaller wheels, and that orange paint, and also gets some exclusive features. The interior is wrapped in Nero (black) or exclusive Steam (white).

Fiat 500e comes with a 7-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) instrument cluster displays full-color picture graphics to illustrate vehicle functions, charge levels and trip summary, a new TomTom Navigation unit enables the driver to view the vehicle’s charge schedule, range, and power-flow gauge, as well as charging stations, and an electronic shifter with easy-to-use push-button transmission mode selection.

Another exclusive feature is the Fiat 500e Smartphone App that lets the owner track energy use, locates the vehicle and nearby charging stations, and also get real-time vehicle status and manages charging.

Pricing for the Fiat 500e is yet to be announced.
