Finally, after everything leaked about it, Porsche took the wraps off the new Cayman sports coupe at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Going on sale next year as a 2014 model, the new Cayman comes with a few subtle changes over the Boxster – apart from the solid roof obviously – but they are not enough to give it a different personality.

The Cayman features its own air intakes and fog lights on the front, and a unique rear hatch. The rear spoiler too is modified and has a different angle of attack to compensate for the roof. That’s about it! The rest of the car is all Boxster.

Another area the Cayman has changed slightly over the Boxi is under the bonnet. The standard Cayman features a 2.7-liter flat six engine with 275 hp (202 kW), which is 10 more than the open top car. 0 to 100 km/h in this car is dealt with in between 5.4 to 5.7 seconds (depending on the transmission), and it has a top speed of 266 km/h. Fuel consumption varies between 7.7 L/100 km and 8.2 L/100 km (34 to 36 mpg).

The sportier Cayman S has the 3.4-liter flat six engine with 325 hp, again 10 more than the Boxster, does 0 to 100 km/h between 4.7 to 5 seconds, reaches 283 km/h, and averages between 8 to 8.8 liters per 100 km (32 to 35 mpg).

Standard transmission is a six-speed manual, with a  seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) available as a costly option. Another notable option is the Sport Chrono package delivers the best possible standing-start acceleration in conjunction with PDK and the Sport Plus button with the Launch Control function. PASM is also an option you may want to consider.

Prices in Germany start from €51,385 for the Cayman and €64,118 for the Cayman S. In the UK, the Cayman is priced from £39,694 (€68,460 in Ireland), and the Cayman S priced from £48,783 (€84,136 in Ireland).
