Details and images of the new Ford Fiesta ST have been revealed ahead of the car’s official debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. With a face like a mini Aston Martin, and a 200 horsepower EcoBoost engine, the 2014 Fiesta ST is raising the bar for hot hatchbacks every where, especially in America.
The 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine in this car is rated at 197 horsepower and 214 lb.-ft. of torque. That is a healthy amount of torque in a car the size of a shoe. Because of it, the ST has a very nice drive.
You have 177 lb.- ft. of torque available from just 1,600 rpm, which means you don’t have to rev the nuts off the car to go anywhere, which means you get good fuel economy of 34 mpg.
To be distinguished over normal Fiestas, the ST comes with a subtle aerodynamic body kit, consisting of a unique grille and chin spoiler with new rear diffuser and fascia extensions, as well as dual tailpipes. A set of 17-inch wheels wheels and the new Molten Orange tri-coat metallic paint (optional) complete the looks.
Ford has worked hard on the car’s handling. It has a fast steering system with a ratio of 13.6:1, and rides 15mm lower than the standard car. This little car even has Torque Vectoring Control to reduce understeer during hard cornering maneuvers and 3-mode electronic stability control – standard, sport or off. That is Porsche stuff right there.
Sounds like helluva car… as long as it’s priced like a Ford!
