Hyundai HCD 14 Concept Teaser 545x334 at Hyundai HCD 14 Concept Previews Next Genesis

Hyundai released the first teaser shot of a full-size sedan they will be showing at the upcoming 2013 Detroit Motor Show in concept form, called the HCD-14. This, to all intents and purposes, is a preview for the next Hyundai Genesis sedan.

The HCD-14 will showcase not only a new design direction for the brand – or at least Hyundai premium vehicle design – it also boasts some new, high-end technology features that will be used in the upcoming production model. As you know, Hyundai doesn’t like messing around with radical concepts that are of no good use. Every design study has to have a purpose.

So the HCD-14 gets a new 3D gesture-based control system, which as the name suggests must enable the driver to control the cars’ features with simple hand gestures. Sounds like overkill – because if you can be bothered to make a hand gesture, you may as well push the bloody button! – but neat technology.

What we are keen to know is what sort of drivetrain the new Genesis will be getting. The current car is available with a 3.8 liter V6 and a 5.0 liter V8, both brilliant engines performance-wise, but not what you call economical. There is also rumors flying around that Hyundai is working on a 10-speed transmission.

More details on the HCD-14 and the Genesis will be revealed closer to the 2013 NAIAS.
