The most revolutionary race car of the 21st century, and possibly of all time, Deltawing is back and they are gearing up for this season’s ALMS series. As promised, the new Deltawing features a closed cabin which makes it look even weirder than before, but as long as it works.
Set for debut at the Sebring International Raceway this weekend, the Deltawing Coupe also comes with a new engine. After Nissan abandoned them and took its 1.6 liter engine away, Deltawing teamed up with Elan Motorsports Technologies who is building them a new powertrain. They also switched the opentop model’s engine with a 2.0L turbocharged aluminum block for racing in P1.
With this chrome paint job and red decals, the Deltawing Coupe looks kinda like McLaren’s Formula 1 car! We hope this time around things work out better for the team.
“As the season goes forward, and we incorporate the new tub and new chassis with the new 2014 rules, and new engine, we think as with any new program that it will continue to improve in performance,” said Dr. Don Panoz, managing partner, DeltaWing Racing Cars. “As we get close to the latter part of the season, we’ll be capable of getting onto the podium.”
