While Ferrari is still reluctant to let its new hypercar, LaFerrari, hit the roads in the real world, McLaren and Porsche decided to treat the fans by sending their magnificent new creations to the Goodwood Hill for a couple of demo runs. The 918 was impressive, but the P1 stole the show with its awesome power and unique purplish-black paint job.

Luckily, supercar spotter Shmee150 was at the right place at the right time to capture the P1 as it was going about its business. Let’s check it out together:

The McLaren P1 is slower than its predecessor, the F1. It’s kind of funny that back in 1998 a McLaren with only 620 horsepower could do 386 km/h, but its successor with 920 horsepower can only manage 350 km/h. But it’s OK, because the competition is not any faster. Well, the Veyron and Agera are, but among the new generation of hybrid hyper cars, the P1 is as fast as the others.

The car has a mid-mounted twin-turbo V8 engine coupled to an electric motor, delivering its power to the rear wheels via a dual-clutch transmission. It is made entirely from carbon fiber and has a minimalistic, driver-focused cabin. It also has a F1-derived DRS active wing. By today’s standards, the P1 is a very light car. Still, it is heavy enough not to be as fast as the F1!
