The three big American car makers are currently engaging in a full-on battle to see who makes the better cop cars. If they keep going like this, soon we will see officers lining up at the red lights for a spot of drag racing just to settle the argument.

Ford is now adding fuel to the fire by proudly announcing that their Ecoboost Police Interceptor has beaten Chevrolet and Dodge in recent instrumented acceleration testing by the Michigan State Police. The supposed eco-minded car here was faster than Chevrolet Caprice V8 and Hemi Dodge Charger, as well as the V8-equipped Chevrolet Tahoe.

That is the beauty of the EcoBoost engine. They utilize technologies like turbocharging to offer the power of a big engine with the fuel economy of a small one. The 3.5-liter unit in the Ford EcoBoost Police Car is also backed up by four-wheel-drive, which gives the car better grip and acceleration.

The 2014 Ford Police Interceptor sedan with standard all-wheel drive – posted a 0-60 mph time of 5.66 seconds, compared to 6.04 seconds for the 5.7-liter Hemi-equipped Dodge Charger with optional all-wheel drive. The Ford EcoBoost-powered sedan also topped the 6.0-liter V8-equipped Chevrolet Caprice, which clocked a 6.01-second 0-60 mph time. The car also exceled at 0-100 mph testing by setting a 13.5 seconds record, besting Dodge Charger’s14.70 seconds and Chevrolet Caprice’s 14.35 seconds.

Besides the powerful motor, Ford also offers a fuel-efficient 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine for non-pursuit cars in form of the Special Service Police sedan.
