No motor show is ever complete without at least a couple Toyota concept cars knocking about the show floor. For this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota’s home event, they’ve come up with five vehicles, each showcasing a new future mobility concept.

First we have the FCV Concept, which is the fuel cell powered family car they have already promised to launch in 2015. It runs on hydrogen, and the production version is said to boast a range of at least 300 miles (500km) on a full tank and a refuelling time of around three minutes. Driving aside, a fully fuelled vehicle can provide enough electricity – 10kW/h – to power an average Japanese family home for a week.

The FV2 is one of the more interesting Toyota Future Mobility Concepts at this year’s show. Instead of a steering wheel, this vehicle is operated by the driver shifting his or her body intuitively to move the vehicle forwards or back, left or right. Sounds odd, but it could work. Toyota FV2 also features the latest car-to-car communication technologies.

The JPN Taxi concept, a spoof of London Taxi with Japanese some flair, plus Voxy and Noah, two established seven-seat compact MPV models for the Japanese market, are among the other Tkyo-bound concepts.
