Things are pretty good at Jaguar Land Rover at the moment. For the first time in history the business is going so smoothly that they have enough time and funds to look into the future and develop new groundbreaking technologies. This used to be German territory, but not anymore.

One of the new technologies JLR is developing for use in their production cars in the near future is a ‘self-learning’ intelligent car with a smart assistance whose goal is to make your live easier and reduce distractions, so you can focus on the job of driving.

In order to do so, JLR’s intelligent car relies on complicated software that monitors the driver’s behaviors and learns their preferences. It can then predict their routine and changing preferences based on variables such as the weather and their schedule for the day. Like an assistant, the car will check your calendar and reminds you of important occasions. In short, it takes over many of the daily driving ‘chores’ that could potentially distract you.

Jaguar Land Rover is also investing in developing a new family of fuel-efficient engines for their family cars, while the nutters in the Special Operations division keep making 500+ horsepower supercharged V8s. What they’ve come up with for people in sensible trousers is a new lightweight, compact low-emissions modular engines called Ingenium.

Ingenium’s modular design enables both petrol and diesel engines to share many common internal components and calibration strategies. This reduces complexity, raises quality and simplifies manufacturing, and allows Jaguar Land Rover to react more quickly to changes in global demand.
