It was only a practice run on some old tires and with traffic on the track, but when the test driver of this Koenigsegg One:1, Robert Serwanski, returned to the pits he realized he’d just set a new lap record at Spa Francorchamps for production cars. The time was 2:32.14 which is a full six seconds faster than the previous record.
The Swedish car maker believes is capable of doing a lot better than that for a number of reasons. First of all, it was a practice run and they had no real intention of setting a record. What’s more, the car was running on old Michelin tires, and they have to adjust the exhaust system a bit in order to comply with Spa’s noise limit regulations. All that makes the time the One:1 set pretty damn impressive.
That is what you expect from a car with 1,340 horsepower and dry weight of 1,340 kilograms. That is where Koenigsegg One:1 gets its name. The thing is though, the fans don’t really care about acceleration times and lap records. All they want to know is if their favorite hypercar has, officially, a bigger top speed than the current speed champ which is the Bugatti Veyron SuperSport. But Koenig still doesn’t feel like conducting that particular test.
