The amazing Transfagarasan Highway first came to our attention when the former Top Gear trio – Clarkson, Hammond and May – declared it one of the best driving roads in the world. Since then people from all over the world travel to Romania just so they can have a go on this public race track, so to speak.
Having such a beautiful place in their backyard, Porsche Club Romania and Moldova organized a driving tour for their members, taking a huge number of Porsches from every rank on a driving tour of the Transfagarasan Highway. Needless to say, the event created some spectacular scenes. The only downer was the traffic which at times seemed pretty awful. Well, that, and the thought this highway was built by a hateful dictator!
The convoy was a mixed bunch with everything from the old 993 Turbos, to Macans, Panameras, and of course many 911s. Personally, we would like to take on this highway in something like a GT3. But our favorite from this group is that purple 991 Targa. You gotta go topless in that gorgeous weather!
