During a McLaren San Francisco driving event two rebellious McLaren P1 owners broke away from the convoy and embarked on a mini street race chasing each other in the midst of a busy highway. Okay, so there wan’t much street racing happening really, but the P1s were both in full Race Mode, which is kinda cool.
Watching two McLaren P1 strutting their stuff on public road and seeing them next to all those ordinary cars really puts in perspective how awesome these hypercars look. You don’t necessarily have to be driving at 200 mph to enjoy the car and justify the millions of dollars you’ve spent on it. Just catching your reflection in a shop window is enough for that!
And just to recap in case you’ve forgotten, McLaren P1 is powered by a 3.8 liter bi turbo V8 hooked up to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an electric motor supplied by a battery pack and featuring regenerative braking system. The combined power output of this system is 916bhp which is good for a 0 to 60 mph time of around 2.5 seconds and a limited top speed of 220 mph. The car can also be driven in electric mode for a few miles, but you’re not going be doing that if you own a P1.
