Lexus announced its lineup for the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, and it includes a fairly significant new model based on the recently unveiled LC luxury Coupe. It’s the 2017 Lexus LC 500h, a hybrid version of the extremely beautiful LC powered by the firm’s “Multi Stage Hybrid System.”

Lexus has not revealed any technical details on this Multi Stage Hybrid System apart from mentioning that it provides “enhanced driving pleasure, more performance, and greater efficiency.” But the word on the interwebs is Lexus LC 500h gets a 3.5 liter V6 engine coupled with an electric motor. So you get the power of a full-blooded V6 with the efficiency of a four-pot. And what that means is if you want a sporty driving experience, you should look elsewhere.

Unlike the RC F and IS F, cars with which Lexus is trying unsuccessfully to challenge its sporty German rivals, the new Lexus LC and especially its hybrid variant are primarily designed as big, lofty luxury cruisers. They don’t promise an engaging drive like a BMW 6 Series or Mercedes SL, but they look absolutely amazing, they are built beautifully, and they are nice and painless to run. And that, we reckon, is a recipe for success.

Along with the Lexus LC 500h, the Japanese car maker will also display at the Geneva show the new LF-FC fuel cell, a concept that “offers a peek into the design and technology direction of Lexus’ future flagship sedan.”
