So a day after the debut of the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato at Villa d’Este we get the first rendering of the car in convertible ‘Volante’ guise. This was of course bound to happen, but it might well be an exercise in futility.

Launching a drop-top version of a new coupe is always the next logical step for Aston Martin so far as normal production models are concerned. Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato ain’t now normal model. It’s a concept for the time being, and even if they decide to make a limited-run production version of it, it’ll only come as a hardtop. They have spent a lot of time getting that double bubble roof just right. They’re not going to just chop it away now!

That said, we have to admit Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato looks pretty hot as a convertible. The car’s new front fascia complete with the Zagato headlights and side strakes give the old VanQ a supremely exquisite look. Losing the solid roof only adds to the visual drama of the whole thing and makes it more appealing to the eye. So while it’s not happening, the Volante would make a good deal of sense seeing as the car is a just an eye candy cruiser and not a sports machine, so it might as well be a drop-top.
