Lexus is coming to the 2016 Paris Motor Show not just with a new crossover concept, but also with a new seat. But it’s not just any old seat. It’s a seat that is said to be capable of revolutionizing the whole “principles of car seat occupancy.” Called Lexus Kinetic Seat Concept, this thing is probably the most well thought out seating solution in the history of sitting down.

The word Kinetic in Lexus Kinetic Seat Concept reflects the fact that the seat’s cushion and back rest are designed to move kinetically with occupant weight and external forces. They do this to help the spine with its natural duty of stabilizing the head, thus reducing the movement caused by vehicle motion and keeping the field of vision steady.

Another highlight of Lexus Kinetic Seat Concept is the unique upholstery. It is the coolest part of the seat, comprising a spider web-pattern net with threads that spread out radially from the center of the back rest. Not only does this feature help with the whole kinetic thing mentioned above, it also makes the seat incredibly light and quite good looking too in a Mad Max sort of way.

Last but not least, Lexus’ kinetic seat is also environmentally-conscious since the spider web pattern upholstery is made from synthetic spider silk materials instead of petroleum-derived materials. This synthetic silk is protein-based and has excellent shock absorbance properties.
