In an unprecedented move, at least for such a car maker, Infiniti has teamed up with Renault Sport Formula One Team to present a concept sports coupe with F1 technology for the road. It is called Infiniti Q60 Project Black S and it boasts a performance hybrid powertrain with Formula One energy recovery systems.

Once more, technologies developed in the world of motorsport are finding their way to ordinary, day-to-day road cars. The Infiniti Q60 Project Black S previews the kind of systems the car maker hopes to use in their production model in the near future, namely fuel saving techniques that actually improve performance rather than hurt it.  As such, the Black S features an ‘energy recovery system’ (ERS) which recovers the wasted energy in form of electricity and uses it to supplement the power of the combustion engine. The system could contribute to an approximate 25% improvement in maximum power output.

Infiniti Q60 Project Black S ha also provided the designers to explore new ideas for their sportiest creation. The base car has been given massive new aero pars made from carbon fiber, from front splitter to rear diffuser, hood scoops, skirts and flaps, and it comes with high-end elements such as titanium twin exhaust system and lightweight 21-inch wheels and wider performance tires. Infiniti says this Geneva Motor Show concept is built to “gauge potential interest in daring high-performance derivatives of its cars that benefit from genuine motorsport technology,” which is nonsense because of course people would be interested in such a thing. They should be focusing on producing it!
