After the 540C and the GT and all the racing variants it was about time McLaren dropped the drop-top version of the 570S, the so-called baby super car, the McLaren 570S Spider. And here it is in all its official glory, being exactly what you expect it to be, which is a discount version of the 650 where everything is less, but no less satisfying. 

Available to order now from £164,750 in the UK (with the first 400 being Launch Edition models), the 2018 McLaren 570S Spider comes with same roof arrangement as McLaren 650S and 675LT Spiders which is a carbon fiber retractable hardtop. It is a fantastic solution and can be opened or closed in just 15 seconds, at vehicle speeds of up to 40km/h (25mph). The car also has a glazed wind deflector can be electrically raised or lowered at the push of a button regardless of the position of the roof to allow additional sound and fresh air into the cabin.

In tandem with the open-top cabin McLaren 570S Spider also comes with an optional sports system that features an ESG to channel exhaust sound towards the cabin, via the area beneath the tonneau cover, for that full alfresco super car experience. Dynamically, there is no need to worry yourself over the loss of performance which is typical of coupe cars turned into convertible because the Spider is only 46 kg heavier than the hardtop 570S. The 570 PS V8 twin-turbo engine is more than capable of decent performance, taking the car from standstill to 100km/h (62mph) in 3.2 seconds and to 200km/h (124mph) in just 9.6 seconds.
