Ferrari officially announced that the 27-year old Fernando Alonso has signed a three year contract with the Scuderia and will replace outgoing Kimi Raikkonen from the beginning of 2010 Formula 1 season. Felipe Massa will remain on board as Alonso’s teammate for the new year, while Giancarlo Fisichella will get the job of test driver.
As for Kimi Raikkonen, he will almost certainly join McLaren Mercedes. The winner of 2007 championship with Ferrari is reportedly getting his full 2010 salary before he leaves the red team. McLaren’s sponsor Sanatnder is said to be the one who pays Kimi’s fee!
The 29-year old Finn has commented on the deal: “With common consent, we have agreed to terminate the contract binding me to Ferrari to the end of 2010, I am very sad to be leaving a team with which I have spent three fantastic years. I have always felt at home with everyone here and I will have many happy memories of my time with the team.”
