Superformance LLC is done turning the legendary 1963 Grand Sport race car into a modern-day street car, or as they like to call it, a Cobra Killer! This Grand Sport always had the potential to become a direct rival for Carroll Shelby’s Cobra, but GM has been always busy making crap cars and had no time for this. So this Californian custom car maker came along and did it!
Although the original 550hp 6.2 liter V8 with Weber carburetors was something else, but you sure will find the same joy here as you can have the car with any of the GM’s new V8s ranging form the 350 hp small-block up to the ZR1’s supercharged engine . You will also get modern stuff like independent suspension and high-performance brakes.
Superformance has actually acquired the blueprints of the original Grand Sport to make sure that their car is exactly the same. With only five originals ever built, this must have been quit hard for them! But they give buyers the opportunity to own a piece of GM’s rich history.
he SPF Grand Sport will be available in a roadster or coupe version and the technical originality is ensured by the legendary discipline and precision that has made Superformance products the leading fully assembled rolling chassis in the world. What makes this street version an even more valuable product is that it is licensed by its originators and that is not only meant to be raced, but is equally at home as a daily driver.
Each SPF Grand Sport will be professionally engineered, custom crafted and professionally assembled in the largest and most modern privately owned specialist automotive manufacturing facility in the world. First examples of this magnificent machine will be delivered in mid 2010.
