Ferrari has revealed a new one-off model which is specially built for Edward Wilson, an American film enthusiast whose father is the inventor of cable TV! It’s called the P540 Superfast Aperta and although its front-end suggests that it’s a modified 612 Scaglieti, it is actually based on the 599 GTB Fiorano, and inspired by a Carrozzeria Fantuzzi-designed Ferrari built specifically for the 1968 Fellini film, Toby Dammit, itself inspired by one of the tales of Edgar Allan Poe.
Designed and built within 14 months, the P540 is 20 kg lighter than the 599 thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber. But the engine remains unchanged, it’s the Enzo 6.0 liter V12 with 620 hp and 608 nm of torque mated to a six-speed F1 gearbox.
With this car, technical features don’t matter at all! It is just about the passion for the prancing horse, the swell looks and the great feeling of owning a unique Ferrari which will be auctioned some day for millions and millions of Dollars! That’s why Mr.Wilson, taking delivery of his car at Fiorano, said: “This is the most special Christmas present of my life.”
