It’s not official, but yesterday various sources published the very first images of the Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell, the electric variant of the German supercar which is due to arrive in 2013. Of course Mercedes had officially confirmed that they are going to make this car before, but it’s still too soon to see it like this!

As for the car itself, it’s powered by a sophisticated electric system, but don’t let that electric word put you off, because it’s a creation of AMG and they never compromise on power! So this EV gets four motors, two on each of the axles, with a combined power of 526 horsepower and 649 pound-feet of torque. It’s a little less than the petrol-powered model, but still very impressive.

And it’s four-whee-drive, capable of going form zero to 60 mph in 4 seconds. So despite being a very green electric vehicle, the SLS E-Cell is still a full-on supercar. Actually it’s something more than green, it’s AMG lumilectric magno! (body color of this prototype).

The interior of the car features a huge screen which is, by imagine, touch sensitive with a very cool battrey-meter in the middle of it showing you the remaining charge. This car is very promising, but we should wait for the official specs of it to see how Mercedes has dealt with issues like the range and charging time.
