At 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Toyota will unveil a new version of the FT-86 concept revealed back in 2009, simply called the FT-86 II. They say it is closer to the final design for Toyota’s next sports car, which is possibly the new Supra. Based on what we see from the teaser shot, the car has substantial differences over the first FT-86.
The original FT-86 is 4,160mm long, 1,760mm wide, and 1,260mm high with a wheelbase of 2,570mm, giving it a compact feeling that is easy for the driver to handle while able to accommodate four occupants. The bases of the car should remain the same int the FT-86 II, but designwise it will be less dramatic and more production ready than the initial car.
Toyota has over 50 year-long history of creating exciting sports cars, and this new concept embodies the company’s reborn passion for sports car driving. We just hope they give this car a proper engine and don’t fall in the same trap Honda did with the CR-Z hybrid.
