This time around the mighty Land Rover Defender is not getting a facelift, it will be replaced by a whole new model. The work on the project has just begun.

Sources are suggesting that a concept version of the new Defender could be ready for 2013 reveal, which means sometime in 2015 we get the real thing. Sure the next Defender will be even more capable than the current model with all the electronic technologies at hand. And it will also be better and easier to live with, a more day to day car. But we’re concerned about its design.

You see the Defender is one of few iconic cars, like the G-Wagen, that should go on forever with the same shape as they were conceived a million year ago.Messing with that could be a big mistake. That said, if LR does a good job modernizing the looks of the Defender, it could also be a huge success. You never know.

Besides the new look, the next Defender will also feature a brand-new platform and will be built in a new factory. Thank you TATA!
