First official pictures and details of the Subaru XV concept released by the Japanese car maker as the car goes on stage at the Auto Shanghai.

The XV is an urban crossover with a trendy design and fairly compact size, but unlike other cars of the sort it is also a very capable 4×4 since it’s based on Subaru’s rally-proven drivetrain that is used for their entire lineup. Of course the concept is just here to show us the design, and if (when) the car gets into production final specifications will be confirmed. The design theme is called the “Protren”, which is coined from “Professional tool” and “Trendy design”. So they invented a new word for it!

Describing the XV’s design, Subaru uses words like solid, dynamic, stylish, trendy, a lot. It looks to us like a jacked up legacy and that’s probably because it is to some extent! That’s alright though, it is a nice design apart from that horrible “Electro Yellowgreen” color.

Highlights of the interior include “Silvery white leather” as the base material for the seats, sporty mesh in selected areas, and “yellowgreen” piping.  The car boasts three different displays – one each for navigation, car audio, and vehicle information featuring touch panel technology. The concept car features Subaru’s own advanced driving assist “EyeSight” system. An LCD monitor positioned between the two well-balanced and highly visible combination meters allows the driver to check the images captured with the EyeSight’s stereo cameras.

Subaru XV concept is powered by the 2.0-liter four cylinder Horizontally-Opposed DOHC engine mated to a Lineartronic (CVT) gearbox and sits on 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels with 245/45 ZR19 tires.
