McLaren ‘Mega Mac’ In The Works

McLaren Legend at McLaren Mega Mac In The Works

Sources from inside the Woking-based factory have let out a little secret. McLaren is working on an all-new supercar, known internally as the ‘Mega Mac’, which is ought to take the crown as the ultimate supercar.

To be launched in 2014, the Mega Mac will be limited to 500 units, and although some people are already comparing it to the Bugatti Veyron, the specs of the car are not in the same league as the mighty Bugga.

The Mega is said to have a 799bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine with 590lb ft of torque, transferred via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Performance-wise it should be able to do 0 to 60 in just under 3 seconds, 100mph in 5.5 seconds and 200mph in just 20.0 seconds, which is better than the Veyron. One would assume that’s because the Mac will be lighter than the Veyron. Because of its engine output the final name of the car could be McLaren 799.

The car also gets other supercar ingredients like Brembo brakes, or carbonfibre Monocell or fancy pushrod suspension, but we are worried its looks. Sources say the car will be bigger, angrier and more functional looking than the current MP4, but will also maintain some similarities with it. That’s not good, because to be honest the design of the MP4, like its name, is very cold and uninspiring for a high performance, expensive and rather luxurious (after all it comes with fancy toys like trackday cameras and stuff!) supercar. Hope the Mega Mac looks more like the F1 and less like the MP4.

Price-wise the Mega McLaren will cost something like £350,000 and £400,000, maybe more!
