A few hours after the first shots of the new Mercedes ML leaked onto web, the first official pictures of the car emerge.

We’ve already talked about the design and how it looks just right for what it is. We have to mention though, the new ML has become 24mm longer, 16mm wider and 19mm lower than the current model. It now has a more manly and chiseled body. There’s no way you can call this one a tall van! The car will be loaded with up to the minute safety and connectivity systems, including the Pre-safe and the latest Command system with Google integration.

Apart from the looks, the 2012 Mercedes ML also features new engines and technologies. When it goes on sale in early 2012 it’ll be available with a new 2.1 liter turbodiesel unit, replacing the 300CDI engine, rated at 201bhp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox and equipped with stop-start and brake energy recuperation, this powertrain will do 47 mpg with CO2 emissions of 158g/km.

There will also be the ML350 254 hp Bluetec model, ML 350 BlueTec 4Matic with 258 hp, Mercedes ML 350 4Matic BlueEfficiency petrol with 306 hp, and later on the ML300 Hybrid, powered by a diesel-electric system consisting of the ML250’s 2.1-litre engine in combination and a 20bhp electric motor, good for average fuel consumption of 54.3mpg.

So as it turns out no V8 except for the AMG model. The ML63 AMG will get the new 5.5 liter Biturbo V8 with 536bhp and a slightly modified body with AMG bumpers, exhausts and wheels.

IAA show in Frankfurt will see the 2012 Mercedes ML’s world debut.
