We have it on good authority that there’s a new Lamborghini SUV in the works. But it’s nothing like the mighty LM. It’s going to be much softer than that.

That is because Lambo’s new SUV will be based on the underpinnings of the next generation Porsche Cayenne. That is relevant, because the production version of the Estoque four-door will be based on the next-gen Panamera. That said, Lamborghini models are not likely to get the same engine range, at least not the diesel and hybrid ones.

So Lamborghini thinks in their quest to global, they need a four-door sedan and a SUV. But given the enormity of the task, they cannot do it on their own. For this, fellow VW Group member Porsche seems to be the most logical option for a fruitful cooperation. They’ve already shown with the Cayenne how they can make rugged and tough SUVs that also work well on the road, with no compromise on luxury and exclusivity.
