The Spider version of Ferrari 458 Italia is going to finally make its world debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
It’s a tradition for Ferrari to launch a drop-top version of their GT cars a year or so after the hardtop, but the anticipation for the 459 Spider is higher because there are rumors flying around that it will feature a new type of folding hard top, rather than the fabric roof, like the previous models.
The car gets the same 570 hp V8 engine as the hardtop, but naturally it’ll be a bit slower because of the extra weight and all. The slight loss of performance is not that important, especially when you realize how the great the Spider looks. No body has seen it yet, but when the hardtop looks so damn hot, the Spider is not going to be a disaster, obviously!
After the launch of Ferrari 458 Spider early next year, the spotlight will be set on the replacements for the 599 and the Enzo suprcar. The 458 Scuderia is the other product in the pipeline, due in 2013.
