McLaren has started official testing of the successor to the legendary F1, nicknamed the MegaMac, for 2014 launch.
The new hyper car is set to regain its predecessor’s title as the fastest car in the world, which means beating the Veyron, the upcoming Tuatara SSC and the forthcoming Porsche 918 and Ferrari Enzo.
The MegaMac is expected to have a 799bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine which might not be as powerful as its rivals, but it’s going to be very light. Thanks to a lightweight carbonfibre monocell the car will be able to hit 60 from standing still in 2.8 seconds, 0 to 100mph in 5.5 seconds and 0 to 200mph in 20.0 seconds. The new F1 will be eve more technical than the MP4-12C, which McLaren themselves admit is a bit cold and unemotional.
The MegaMac has done its confidential test session in Spain and is heading to Germany now. It will also probably visit Bahrain for hot weather testing.
The finished product will have a price tag in excess of £1 million.
