The hybrid version of the new Lexus GS offers a very refined, very luxurious, and very elegant 340-hp Eco car!

That is a very hard trick to pull. But by the looks of things Lexus managed it. The previous Lexus GS hybrid was a fine car too, but this new one with the aggressive design, lavish interior and best of all, the second generation Lexus Hybrid Drive system is in a class of its own.

This hybrid system consisting of a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a compact, high-output, water-cooled permanent magnet electric motor has a total output of 338 hp and four driving modes of Eco, Sport S, Sport S+ and EV modes. In the sportiest setting it takes the car from nought to 60mph in 5.6 seconds. It’s fantastic.

It is as fast, if not faster, as many sports saloons in the market. But because it’s a hybrid you pay less tax, and it’s also lighter on fuel.

And it’s not just the performance which is sporty. The standard 17-inch alloy wheels are paired with 225/50R17 tires while the optional 18-inch alloy wheels are equipped with 235/45R18 tires. The Lexus GS 450h’s Electronically Controlled Braking (ECB) system characteristics have been modified to provide greater responsiveness from the first touch of the pedal.

What’s more, because it’s a Lexus it comes packed with features. We are very fond of its high-tech security features which include a Night Vision System that enhances driver visibility at night; Heads Up Display (HUD); a Blind Spot Monitor that helps detect vehicles in rear/side blind spots; and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

Another interesting feature is the new energy-saving auto climate control system called S-Flow that focuses airflow only to the front area where passengers are actually seated. It’s even got   a bamboo-finished steering wheel which reinforces the sustainability of the GS 450h, and the hybrid monitor.

It’s really hard to fault this car. It does everything. And it does all of them well.
