Even though the whole world is going carbon crazy, Ferrari apparently is going to stay loyal to aluminum for its new super GT replacing the 599 GTB.
Ferrari argues the advantages of a carbon fiber body are not significant enough to justify the cost and complexity of production, at least for a big grand tourer.
They do have a point. If saving 10 kg means 20 percent increase in construction costs, you are far better off spending that money on the car’s performance to balance it out. What’s more, carbon fiber body panels are notoriously expensive to repair in case of a crash. And that matters in a car like the 599, a fast super GT that most customers will use on daily basis.
For all the performance and weight considerations, aluminum still cuts it for Ferrari. So no carbon fiber for the next 599.
