If you take the new NSX out of the picture, the rest of Acura’s range is full of ugly, dreary cars. They really need a major makeover, and that’s apparently what they’re are about to get. The next Acura RL for example will get a version of the hybrid system designed for the 2015 NSX sports car. At least that’s what boss Takanobu Ito says.
The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) in the NSX consists of a powerful next-generation VTEC V-6 engine with direct-injection works in concert with a dual clutch transmission with built-in electric motor to create supercar acceleration while offering outstanding efficiency.
It’s highly unlikely for the RL to get exactly the same setup. A four-cylinder unit is a more probable proposition. It would make the new Acura both powerful and fuel efficient.
The new powertrain is great, but we also hope Acura comes up with a whole new design language as well. All their cars look like they belong to the previous century!
